Symbols of Power and Ritual of the Teton Sioux

This work was originally given as a lecture and subsequently published as a paper in the Canadian Journal of Native Studies. In this paper Colin Taylor brought out the observations of the American anthropologist, Lewis Henry Morgan, who felt that Indian artefacts were "silent memorials" which could unlock the social history of the past. This short work describes the Sioux Cosmos and the all pervading force wakan - the power of the universe, structured and coloured symbolism and the symbolic cocoon within Sioux culture. |
